In the fast moving world of digital electronics, I find it incredible that the vacuum tube — a piece of early 20th century analog technology — has managed to survive. It should have bitten the dust long ago but that just did not happen, thanks in part to electric guitar enthusiasts and the Soviet and Chinese militaries who kept using them. Not only did the lowly vacuum tube make it into the 21st century, it is now on a noteworthy rebound. Today, many vacuum tube types are readily available and at reasonable cost. These consist of "new old stock" left over from 50 plus years ago, and many newly manufactured in modern plants world wide.

A "one tuber" that might be worth messing with? Posted: May Sun 20, am. Bill That would be a nice kit. Builders could wind their own coils. Plexiglass would be nice but even a cardboard tube will work. Would expect the hardest part to be locating enough variable caps for tuning. There are ways around the tuner. They have a second coil that rotates inside the main coil.
You could also do this for regen control. Not hard to make Vintage tube radio plans type of coil. Wind the main coil on 3" plexiglass.
Wind two smaller coils on 2" plexiglass. These will be mounted so they rotate at each end on the main coil. One coil in series with main one for tuning and the other for regen. No variable cap or pot needed. Posted: May Thu 31, am. John, That is a lovely piece of work. I'm curious though-why does the grid leak cap and resistor go to the screen grid rather than to the control grid, as is usually done?
Posted: May Thu 31, pm. I don't mean to hijack the post, but the schematic is correct. This is called "space charge" operation of tubes. It was discovered years ago Vintage tube radio plans if the grid and screens were reversed and a positive potential was stuck on the grid, it would serve to accellerate these electrons on their journey to the plate. About the biggest commercial use of this circuit was with the hybrid car radios of the late 's and early 's what used tubes with only Orgasm donor costume volts on the plates.
So it is nothing new, but simply old ideas revised. We have had considerable amounts of discussion here in the past six months or so about it. I will also admit it looks strange and at Vintage tube radio plans it was fooling this old tube guy, but after reading up on it, it makes perfect sense.
Hope this helps. Page 1 of 1. Previous topic Next topic. Post subject: Plans for a simple 1 tube radio Posted: May Thu 17, am. All that we can be,not what we are" John Denver. Mike Toon.
